What Is Your Song For Monday?

Hello Everyone,

Do you have a song that just picks you up?  Music really connects with the mind, body and spirit. I am a lover of all genres of music and each inspires me in its own way.  Always, as I go through my week, music, music, music all week long.  It gets me through my days.  There is a song that lifts me up every time I hear it.   Do you have a song that does that for you? Ii is like nourishing food giving you a boost and making you feel better.

Music has a healing quality to it among many other qualities.  We listen for various reasons, some for a pick me up, motivation, focus, to have a good cry, to stop crying, to relax, to get pumped, when I use to attend spin class, like it was going out of style, the music pumped me up, I felt like I could cycle for days.  At the time, my spin instructor Tim would play all sorts of intense songs, but when he would play "Go Hard or Go Home," the entire class was in the zone.  Music is something that the world can not do without.  Every part of the world has music that serves so many purposes.  If you feel like you are having a hard time getting through your day, turn on some music and see what happens.

So, this song that I previously mentioned that lifts me up every time I hear it is by +Manifesto.  This is going to be my Monday song.  What is yours going to be?

The Past Is Behind You, Not Before You

Hello Everyone,

The past is a place in life that does not have to haunt you.  There are those that will feel that it is their duty to judge you, false.  It is their duty to be true to who they are and  judge no one.  People are imperfect and some will do very regrettable things that they wish could be taken back, but there is no way to make that happen.  So, they punish themselves by constantly reminding themselves of what they have done.  Self imprisonment is only built by the hands of one's own mind, meaning, the thoughts lock one in a state of regress.  Self condemnation will keep one feeling undeserving of a second chance at life to include, happiness, success, love and trust.  God will give you a second chance at life and not judge you that is really what matters.  If you are a changed person who does not do the things you use to, and you are true to that, then live like a new person.  Be your number one advocate.

Your past does not define you today so, do not let others wash your face with your past, sometimes others are toxic to your growth and they should probably have a back sit in your life, no longer front row.  Surround yourself with positivity and positive people, read positive materials, read a scripture everyday from which to receive spiritual nourishment.  You need to hear positive things and see positive acts, give yourself positive reinforcement for being a person of change.  Your mind needs to know that there has been a change, think good thoughts and say good things to yourself.  "Positive Thoughts, Positive Talk," is my slogan.  If someone says to you, I remember when you........it is truly o.k. to stop them mid-sentence and say today is new, my past is where it belongs or just let them know boundaries are being overstepped and do not defend your position.  Hold your head up and believe that you are great today and that God wanted you here, He blew the breathe of life into you and woke you up to see another day.  This let's you know that you have the right to live not simply exist.  Let God's grace be the fire underneath you that motivates you to live in your second chance.

Do not regret your today, it is a grand opportunity to pursue happiness and the you that shines.  Looking back should not be an option, just focus on looking ahead, step out of the self-made prison and knock it down.  As hard as it may seem, replace negative thoughts with positive thoughts, challenge yourself to face fears and believe in your abilities to conquer them.  Hey, remember, your past is where it belongs and it should not do anything, but stay there.  As you begin this transformation and are told by others that you have changed and you're not like you use to be.  Well, that is the idea, take it as a compliment, smile and say thanks.  They are right, you have changed and for the better.  Make your best effort to live for today and it will become your way of life.  It is so great that you have the power to live in happiness.

You Say That You Want It......What Are You Doing To Get It?

Hello Everyone,

You have dreamed and been real hungry to be who you want to be.  What have you done to get there or shall I say what have we done to get there?  I am in that boat with you.  So what are we going to do to get it, to become that person that we know we should be?  Dreaming about it will not bring it to fruition, we must move in the direction of accomplishment through believing. Sometimes, we are faced with trials and it seems like a huge obstacle, but we must use it to step up from where we are.  We can only get stronger.  Even in a trial, keep moving, push, crawl, take baby steps, but keep moving.

WE CAN DO THIS, WE CAN BE WHAT WE WANT, WE CAN DESIGN OUR DESTINY BECAUSE WE HAVE GREATNESS WITHIN US.

If we can say this and believe it we can be it.  Believe in you everyday, every moment, every second, believe in you.  Let us begin this journey and claim our futures.

Do You Know What is Good for You?

Hello Everyone,

Do you know what is good for you?  A smile.  Smiling releases what is called a "Happy Hormone." It makes you feel better and can help you lower your stress level.  Smiling is not harmful, but helpful.  If you do not always feel up to smiling, smile anyway.

A smile is like a yawn, it is contagious, others will smile when you can be found smiling.  It is a pleasant action that makes happy hormones happier.  Take a chance and smile through upset and realize how small things are after a smile.  We must learn as I always say , " to keep the small things small" a smile will help you do that.

Start tomorrow making an effort to smile and just take some situations as water on a duck's back and let it roll off.

See the benefits to smiling in the link below.

The Eye Sees Better

Hello Everyone,

Before I begin, I have an announcement, Dr. Kris Marsh, an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of
Maryland will be a contributing blogger.  She is also a demographer  with a concentration on the African American experience.  Here in America, we are required to identify ourselves on all applications job, school etc. as Caucasian/white, African American/black, Native Indian, Asian and so on.  So, I categorize myself as black.  Dr. Marsh, will share the experience and bring to light views and conditions of the "black experience."  She will be coming soon.  Click the link below to see Dr. Kris Marsh on CNN.

Now, on to my entry for the night.......

Have you ever heard, "there is peace in the eye of the storm?"  Literally, within the middle of a storm there is a middle space/zone area of the storm that is still, a plane can fly into it and fly out without incident.  So is life a storm sometimes.  We go through these very turbulent storms and get tossed around, because we do not find the center, the eye, where we can think clearly and have peace.  It does not have to be so loud all the time just because, there is chaos in our lives, we can go to that hiding place in our heart and find refuge to think our way through certain things, we can decide not to conclude gloom and doom, but to embrace strength and endurance.

When in the storm we can go back to the middle/the eye and see our circumstance from a more positive viewpoint transforming the problem into an opportunity to flow with calm, to get a good night sleep, to pray and believe, to hold our head high, to not be a worrier and to have joy in the struggle.  If we can come back to the center, the center will ground us and keep us from over reacting and going over board about things that are not in our control.

My Dad told me one day, "Oreadea, even if you are on your back, if you can look up then you can get up."  Well, all I could do was smile that was my eye, it brought me to the center.  I could look up, I could see the break of day, my perspective changed and in faith, I walk today.

That eye is the compass that leads us to important quiet times to hear God speak to our hearts and tell us what to do about our situation.  It could be for us to wait a little longer about something or to move on something.  Whatever it is, in the middle, we can hear.   Is it not better to be still and know, than to move in haste and regret?

You Can Get Through It

Hello Everyone,

Last evening I was watching a gospel choir competition and their was a judge named Fred Hammond and he said something that was so profound, he said, "If you fall, praise Him from the floor."  That is such a wonderful thing about the Lord, we can praise Him from where we are, and He will meet us there.  So, if we fall, He will be right there to help us and comfort us, but we have got to praise Him.  We are never so unworthy that we can not talk to Him and share what we are going through.  However, the key is to just say something to Him, even if it is just His name.

You can get through your trials and tribulations.  They may seem so final and the damage may seem permanent, but not so, when it comes to faith in what God can do.  There is no problem so big, but, we have to believe that He will do all that He said.  Here is what I have found, there is a way that we process and assess our circumstance, then, we decide that it needs to be handled a certain way, by a certain time.  So, we zoom in on the outcome that we want.  What about the outcome that God wants for us.  We just have to learn to pray and praise through the fire, pray and praise through the storm, pray and praise through the tears, pray and praise from the floor. Sometimes, we can stand right in the way and cause a real mess, when all that has to be done is to step aside and let God abide.  He will not fail us, but patience is what we must have.  Our time has nothing to do with Him, because His time is right and far exceeds any plan we have.  If we just resign ourselves to trust and let Him work and stop running interference, I will get through and you will get through every trial.  It is not easy to get through trials, they are painful and worrisome, but God will show us just how wonderful and great He is.

You can get through it, whatever it is, just find a way to pray and praise from right where you are. He hears what you don't say.

I Became

Hello Everyone,

I am posting a poem that I composed.  I hope that you enjoy.

I Became

A quiet wish upon a twinkling star
In the night sky
Night dreams of day dreams parading by
The softness of a whisper
I wish one by one

I want to reach out
Touching the heart of someone
Provide shade for a woman with child
Waiting in the noonday sun

I want to be a voice in a mind
With no sense of hope
 Outreach, compassion, courage to cope
Self expression through art
An oil painting of my heart

The light began to shine
Through the window to my face
 I heard a gentle voice
“In this world you have a place”

I can stand and say
I am that person I wished to be
I am the greatness that I call me
I am the one who goes by my name
I am the dream
 “I became”

A Tribute to Self-Worth

Let Children Speak, You Just Might Hear Something

Hello Everyone,

I did not expect to write again tonight, but there is a message that I need to send.  I very recently spoke with a girl that shared some deeply hurtful feelings about some very personal things with me.  All I did was ask her what is wrong? She just appeared distant all of a sudden, so, I just asked. I did not expect much, so I thought that I would just see what she would say.  Well, what a surprise that one question opened up a door of pain and sadness for her.  She shared so much of her inner feelings that all I could do was listen.  I honestly thought that she would brush me off, but a part of me thought, it was better to ask and get brushed off than to not ask and something is really wrong.

Here is my message, for those adults who are reading, we must realize that children are people with problems of life too.  Sometimes we take their youth for granted and we feel that their life experiences can be measured, but that is soooo wrong.  Some children have experienced unspeakable things that damage and impact them in ways that would make us cry rivers.  We must take time to pay attention to signs and listen to give children opportunities to share what is on their minds, it may need addressing.

In times of stress, we all need a positive word and need to ask God to give us a sense of peace..  So, I dedicate the video to every child, every woman, every man that is hurting.

Till next time,
Oreadea

The Afters - Light Up The Sky

Stepping Out on Faith

So many people step out on faith, but why have I decided to step out on faith?  Well, let me share some of my story.

Throughout my life I have always wanted to help others and I did.  There came a point in my life when I needed help and those that were charged with helping did not. Once I stood up and spoke out everything I have always felt rushed back in a strong way.

Now, I am stepping out on faith to help others in a way that I will ask God to lead.

As I go through a situation, where I have the support of family and friends,  I want to also encourage anyone that reads my blog and is going through a situation.

I never asked the question as to why this happened or why it is happening.  I am simply grateful that God has my back and I will stand strong.  It does not mean that I will not have not so good days, but it does mean that I will stay in faith.

So, with that said, this blog will be dedicated to life's ups and downs and just ordinary everyday stuff.  It will also invite others to share stories of ups, downs, pics, fun, education and opinions about current subjects and events. Most of all, being your true self and having a voice that shares your true expressions.

To tell you a little more about me, I am in transition from perm to all natural hair.  Wow, what a great feeling.  One Saturday, my daughter (who is transitioning) and I cut all of the perm out of my hair from the top to the back.  Currently, I am growing my length in the front so that I can say, "see ya" to the permed ends in the front.

As I mentioned, I am going through a situation on which I can not comment.  However, I will say, stand up for yourself,  do not feel that anyone can control your place in life.  Even when you are most afraid pray, then stand up.  Fear will hold you back, I know, it held me back.  Now, from knowing what fear can do, I now say to you, in the face of fear you must stand. No one is greater than you and once you understand that as in the words of Maya Angelou "no one is more human than you," then you will think differently.  I would also venture to say that no one has power over you.  If you walk in faith you may not see initially how great you are, but just walk in it, and you will become so strong that those things that appeared so much bigger, you will see in its real form and size.

As a means of encouragement, I will post poems of inspiration.  Yes, I am a poet and will not only post my poetry, but will ask for submissions to post readers poetry as well.  So, start composing to inspire.

To start, I will personally post on this blog once a week, maybe more if time permits, and soon I will welcome contributors to True Youness.
